Cookie
Policy.

This site sets no cookies of its own and nothing non-essential runs until you accept it. Below is every storage key we use, what it does, and how to change your mind.

The short version

SCS sets no cookies. Non-essential analytics storage is declined by default, and nothing is stored for analytics unless you press "Accept Analytics" in the banner.

We use a small amount of browser storage — not cookies — to remember your consent choice and to run features like the assessment shortcut. Personalization values passed in a link are held only for the duration of your browsing session and are never written to a cookie.

Cookies versus browser storage

A cookie is a small file sent back to a server with every request, which is what makes cookies useful for tracking across sites. Browser storage — localStorage and sessionStorage — stays in your browser and is never transmitted to us automatically.

SCS deliberately uses browser storage instead of cookies wherever a feature needs to remember something. It does the job without creating a tracking mechanism.

What SCS stores

All of the following is strictly necessary storage: it exists to make the site work as you asked it to, and it is set by this site alone.

scs_cookie_consent — localStorage

  • Purpose: remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so the banner does not ask again on every page
  • Contents: your choice, plus a timestamp
  • Duration: persists until you clear your browser storage
  • Set when: you press either button in the consent banner

scs_personalization — sessionStorage

  • Purpose: carries personalization values from a link — such as your name, industry, referral source, or product interest — across pages, so a tailored page does not reset when you navigate
  • Contents: only the values present in the link you arrived on
  • Duration: discarded when you close the tab
  • Set when: you arrive from a link containing personalization parameters

scs_cta_dismissed — sessionStorage

  • Purpose: remembers that you dismissed the floating "Begin Capital Assessment" button, so it stays hidden
  • Duration: discarded when you close the tab
  • Set when: you press the dismiss control on that button

scs_notice_shown — sessionStorage

  • Purpose: prevents the "personalized for you" notice from reappearing on every page in the same visit
  • Duration: discarded when you close the tab

What loads only if you accept

Google Analytics 4

If you press "Accept Analytics," we load Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and where visitors leave. If you decline, the Google Analytics script is never requested and its cookies are never set.

  • Cookies set: _ga and _ga_<container-id>, set by Google on this domain
  • Purpose: distinguishing one visitor from another and measuring sessions
  • Duration: up to two years, as set by Google
  • Data collected: pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring source. IP anonymization is enabled.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing, or audience sharing, and we do not run advertising or social media tracking pixels on this site.

Third-party storage we do not control

Jotform

Our Capital Assessment form is hosted by Jotform and embedded on the assessment page. When that page loads, Jotform may set its own cookies and storage on its own domain to operate the form and to preserve your progress through it. That storage is governed by Jotform's own cookie and privacy policies, not by this one. If you would rather not load it, you can call 801-362-3002 and complete the assessment by phone.

Netlify

This site is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may set strictly necessary cookies to route traffic, protect the site, and process contact form submissions. These are operational rather than analytical.

Google Fonts

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. This makes a request to Google's servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google as part of delivering the font files. Google Fonts does not set cookies.

How to change your choice

Your consent choice is stored in your own browser, so you change it by clearing that storage.

  1. Open your browser's settings for site data — usually under Privacy and Security
  2. Find scsslc.com and clear its cookies and site data
  3. Reload this site, and the consent banner will appear again so you can choose differently

You can also block or delete cookies and storage for all sites in your browser settings, or use private browsing so that everything is discarded when you close the window. Blocking strictly necessary storage may cause the consent banner to reappear on every page, since we can no longer remember your choice.

To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, Google publishes a browser add-on for that purpose.

Do Not Track

Browsers send a Do Not Track signal inconsistently and there is no agreed standard for honoring it. Rather than rely on it, we decline non-essential storage by default for everyone, which achieves the same result without requiring a signal.

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove storage, we will update this page and the effective date above. If we ever introduce a new category of non-essential storage, the consent banner will ask you again rather than assume your previous answer covers it.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions.
